How do I get ServSafe® Manager certified?

The Missouri Restaurant Association can provide assistance with obtaining classes for certification.  Click here to view available classes and register.

When will I receive my certificate?

ServSafe® usually has your exam results available within 12 business days and the results will be emailed to you.  You can print your certificate by logging into ServSafe.com

How long is the food manager certification good for? 

 The ServSafe® Food Manager Certificate is good for 5 years. Then you must go through a certified training class again (like ours).

What score do I need to pass?  

You need a score of 70 or better to pass the ServSafe® Manager Certification Course.

How is the day of the class and exam structured? 

The class starts with a review portion that is approximately 5½ hours with a half-hour lunch break followed by the exam.  You’re allowed up to two hours to take the exam. Therefore, allow for an 8-hour day.

Can I get an accommodation?  

Yes, you must request an accommodation at www.ServSafe.com.

Can I take the exam in different languages besides English? 

Yes. French, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean are available with advance notice.

Will you come to my location to teach a class and proctor an exam?

Do I need to study in advance? 

We strongly encourage you to study in advance.  We recommend that you register for class two or more weeks out to allow time for course material to arrive and ample time for studying.

Should I take the practice exams?

How do I prepare for the exam?

How long does the ServSafe® Exam take to complete?

The time varies depending on the student’s knowledge of the content; an estimated time would be approximately 60 to 90 minutes. 2 hours is allowed.

What is the ServSafe® Exam format?

It’s a paper and booklet test consisting of 90 multiple-choice questions. 

When will I get my certificate? 

Scores and certificates are usually available within 12 business days. If you don’t receive an email stating that your exam score and certificates are available go to ServSafe.com. To create a new profile your email and class/session number are required. The class/session number is provided at class.

Are there qualifications before taking the course? 

You must show a valid photo ID to enter the class.

What do I need to bring to class? 

A valid photo I.D., a sharp No. 2 pencil with a good eraser, a sack lunch, and a beverage (unless your specific course provides a lunch).

If I do not pass the ServSafe® certification exam what should I do? 

We provide our students with a retake option (see retake policy link). You may retake the exam up to two more times within six months. If you fail a third time there is a waiting period of six months to take the test again.  Event calendar link

                            

Is the ServSafe® Manager test hard?

The exam is challenging therefore, we strongly encourage you to review and study the provided materials in advance. The ServSafe® Manager test consists of 90 multiple-choice questions.

How can I pass the ServSafe® Manager exam? 

As with any exam, you will need to put in the time and effort to pass. There are many resources out there to help you pass this exam.  Practice tests, flashcards, and study guides are a great way to prepare. The practice tests will help you narrow down what you need to focus on the most.

Why does my team need to have ServSafe® certified training?

Because it’s required by law and recommended by the FDA. Restaurants must have at least 1 CERTIFIED manager on duty at ALL times or your restaurant can incur fines.
